Starting to Manage a University account

When I took over UNC’s flagship social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok), there hadn’t been a dedicated social media manager for a few years.

The first thing I implemented was consistency. Even if I could get two posts on each platform every week – I knew we would grow.

And we did. In the first year I grew our Instagram following 14.4%, putting us on par with other institutions our size.

Alongside my supervisor, we started an internship where every fall and spring semester, we took on two students to teach how to create content. These students sometimes came in with no experience, but ended each semester a pro.
